Holly Woodlawn (Cherrie)

Holly Woodlawn (born Haroldo Santiago Franceschi Rodriguez Danhakl on October 26, 1946) rocketed to superstardom in Andy Warhol’s TRASH (1970). Director George Cukor lobbied the Academy to nominate her for an Oscar.

Holly was also a inspiration for Lou Reed when he wrote his iconic song, Walk on the Wild Side: “Holly came from Miami FLA, / hitch-hiked her way across the USA, / plucked her eyebrows on the way, / shaved her legs, and then he was a she…”
